This warranty does not cover defects caused by improper installation, improper alteration, abuse, misuse, or exposure to outside elements.

NO OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, ARE MADE. CSI shall not be responsible for any incidental or consequential damages. Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, or allow the exclusion of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitations and exclusions may not apply to you. Installation Instructions for Standard Plantation Shutter Sets

  1. Unpack all the items in the set and carefully check for shipping damage and to see that you have all the items listed on the warranty page. If anything is missing, re-check the packaging. If it is still missing, or if the shipment sustained damage in transit, call the factory toll-free at:1-800-944-1021 Monday through Friday 7 a.m. - 9 p.m. Central Time.
  2. Using a steel measuring tape, carefully measure and then temporarily mark the exact center of the window sill (as on a small piece of self-adhesive "masking" tape). The mark you make should be the same distance from the left side as it is from the right side.
  3. Place the left half of your shutter set on the window sill with the right edge exactly on the temporary mark you made in step #2. The pre-hinged mounting strip should overlap onto the wall (or the trim) on the left side of your window opening. Remember, while the mounting strip sits on the window sill, the shutter panel should NOT touch the window sill … a small gap (about the thickness of a nickel coin) allows the shutter to swing open without scraping. You can use a nickel under the right corner to maintain accurate spacing.
  4. When you have accurately placed the left half of the shutter set, hold it securely in place and use a Phillips head screwdriver (manual or powered) and 2 of the supplied screws to attach the mounting strip to the wall or trim. The screws should be firmly set, and must anchor in wood. Excessive force will split the wood. DRYWALL (SHEETROCK) AND PANELING WILL NOT SUPPLY ADEQUATE STRENGTH IN MOUNTING, AND PRESENT A DANGER OF INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE. Your mounting strip must be attached to wood, or through drywall into wood. The screw heads should be "counter-sunk" within the pre-drilled holes. In some instances where the window trim is not flat, it may be necessary to "shim" behind one edge of each mounting strip.
  5. Repeat Steps #3 and #4 with the right half of your shutter set.
  6. Place a "button" plug in each pre-drilled hole and lightly tap it into place. Glue should not be necessary. Use care so that the finish will not be marred.
  7. With one shutter panel hinged open, position one of the two magnetic catches (with strike plate magnetically attached) immediately behind the shutter panel very near the center of the window opening. Using the small screws provided, attach the magnet to the sill. Magnetically attach the strike plate to the magnet with the 2 tiny "points" on top and facing the room, then gently press the shutter panel against the strike plate to make indentations in the wood of the shutter. Using those indentations as your placement guide, attach the strike place to the back of the shutter with the screw provided.
  8. Repeat Step #7 with the other half of your shutter set. In most cases, the magnetic catches should almost touch each other side-to-side at the temporary "center" mark made in Step #2. When complete, carefully remove the temporary "center" mark from the sill.
  9. All shutter panels come with a "tension" screw counter-sunk in each vertical edge. By simply turning the screw a little clockwise or counter-clockwise with your Phillips head screw driver, you can gently tighten or loosen the louver/pushrod tension in each individual panel to suit your preferences. When adjusting the tension, always split the amount of tension between BOTH sides of the individual panel.

Trimming, while possible, is never recommended. Before trimming to adjust the height or width of any shutter panel, it is strongly advised that you consult with a trained and experienced shutter installer, or with the factory.
